Playing punk music to the members of a peaceful primitive culture would
probably make them run away screaming. Punk is an expression of
aggression as a reaction to a dissatisfying social environment.
Aggressive music is very simple and usually it's enough to make it loud
-- not very transhumanist, methinks. (That's how most music works
anyway: augmenting some rather primitive emotions like aggression, fear,
desire for increased endorphine output by fast movement, sexual
desire.)  What I would call transhumanist music is music mimicking the
process of evolution (including transcension), growing from a primitive
form, perhaps a single tone, to immense beauty. Music encouraging
perfect rational thinking. Music that "gives you the flow" while you're
working. Unfortunately, I have not heard such music yet -- most music I
have heard has rather hindered my work instead of productively
accompanying it. What is needed to produce perfect
productivity-enhancing music is probably a music-generating algorithm
that interfaces with a machine-level knowledge representation language
to incorporate natural-language patterns into musical symphonies. Any
takers?
