Yours and other comments are making me reconisider classifying this as
mere hysteria, although I still think the lawsuit stinks.
Larry Price's point abuout the similarities between Montesano and
Microsoft struck a chord with me. Especially in light of recent
discussions about the impact of free software and the erosion of
intellectual property law, the business practices of the GM giants don't
exactly have "new economy" written all over them.
Perhaps others have studied this case more closely than I have, but I'm
still not sure why the current GM corporations might be considered a
dangerous trust. However unsavory their competitive practices are,
they're making great strides in biotechnology that will amount to a
larger and cheaper food production for a growing world population. What
policy considerations might outweigh this benefit?
If the concern is with large corporations in general, then that's a
different argument.
