there's a very cool applet here:
http://www.orgnet.com/netindustry.html
this presents a metaphor for the commercial Internet today, but can you imagine having this
type of interface returned as the result of your
searches, with all the nodes linkable?
In Some ways presenting simulations can convey complex ideas in a very small dense packages,
any interest in trying to work out some tech so that we could do this sort of thing (hand out
simulations of political behaviors, space traffic,
and other topics of interest to the list)
I guess the first step would be a poll
which OS?
mac linux win32 freebsd other
languages?
java c/c++ objective-c lisp other
topics for simulating?
memetics
politics
technosocial development
global warming(vary assumptions)
you can probably think of things I left out.
If this idea really turns you on, you could have a look at:
www.swarm.org
So here's the deal simulations are not reality.
but they do present a fairly good way of communicating
aspects of reality, would they be an improvement
over the handwaving that usually passes for exposition
on the net (present company excepted ;)?
I don't know.
but it'll be fun to find out.
cheers;
larry
