The White House released its budget to Congress today.

In the line items, and noted in the executive summary:

       Nanotechnology:  $495 million for the National 
       Nanotechnology Initiative, an increase of 83 
       percent

The Republican majority has declared Clinton's budget proposal
'dead on arrival.'  They object to his proposals to expend
funds from the budget surplus, rather than pay down the debt
faster and give out more tax breaks.  It is not clear at this
time whether those objections include funding for science and
technology research, given the potential market return.
