>H Dyson Sphere Un-necessary ?
Transhuman Mailing List
hi,
The Dyson Sphere is much talked about in Transhumanism.
A potentially massive feat of technological engineering for an alien race
to make - it's need to exist is based on a civilisation of 20th century
human physics - the incomplete - un-unified version. ... the need for huge
amounts of power to be harvested within the imaginations of human thinkers
constrained by disunity in physics [imo].
Whereas we assume the constraints and postulate the technological marvel,
Lets be different for a change and assume there are no constraints to N-point
generators and theory - eg. look at the working generator of Bruce DePalma,
the theory of environmental energy by Tesla 1910 - perhaps in some other
civilisation frustrated by disunity - they gave all their paradoxes a going
over by trying out new theories and different perspectives - found unity
and were able to tap unlimited sources of energy without building a dyson
sphere.
Instead of assuming disunity in the civilised Cosmos and imposing our
limitations on the Cosmos, lets change the assumption and assume that
other Civilisations have found Unity and have access to abundant energy.
The Dyson sphere is rather like conceding that we could never have the
technology to make a real GO of flying to the moon in commercial volume
but if we got enough fabric together - we could build a bridge there.
I certainly would not be looking for unrealistic Dyson Spheres -
a solution to bad human physics -
Transhumanists are used to embracing assumptions about advances in physics
and technology - we assume - though we cannot prove that we will be
uploading minds in the future even though none of us can describe the exact
science by which that will successfully happen - so let us embrace the
assumption that intelligent life in the Cosmos is capable of finding a
Unity in its relativity and understanding of energy - and not let ourselves
get too carried away
with the Dyson 'folly'.
